Should my Child's Teeth Be Fully Developed Before Invisalign® Treatment?
In the past, parents typically had to wait until their child lost all their baby teeth before starting any orthodontic work. Thanks to the innovative technology from Invisalign, children can now start treatment as early as seven years old, even if they still have their baby teeth. At our seven Kentucky Orthodontics & Invisalign locations, we frequently treat children between the ages of seven and ten for their orthodontic needs. Since every patient’s situation is different, Dr. Durbin can determine whether to treat or take a wait-and-see approach.
Why should I consider Invisalign treatment for my child?
To put it boldly, Invisalign treatment is the Rolls Royce/Ferrari of orthodontic aligners. Whether you are 7 or 77, Invisalign treatment can give people of all ages the smile they deserve. As an Elite 1% Diamond level Invisalign orthodontics practice, Dr. Durbin specializes in Invisalign treatments and holds the highest Invisalign certificate to provide exceptional orthodontic care, having corrected more than 57,000 smiles for life. Paired with rapid treatment technology, such as AcceleDent® Optima™ technology, your child’s Invisalign treatment can produce results 50% faster than traditional braces, typically in 12 to 18 months. Clear aligners are discreet, convenient, cause no pain, and don’t require any food restrictions. Your child can eat what he/or she wants without fear of damaging their braces.
How do I know if my child is a good candidate for Invisalign aligners?
At Kentucky Orthodontics & Invisalign, we are dedicated to doing everything we can to transform your child’s smile to life-lasting perfection. While we do treat children and teens of all ages, we will only recommend Invisalign aligners, if it is helpful and necessary. We believe early intervention with orthodontics can help in younger children, but each patient’s situation is different, and sometimes monitoring development may be advised instead to see when the time is perfect. When your child goes through a thorough consultation with Dr. Durbin, he can evaluate your child’s teeth, gums, and jaw and decide if Invisalign treatment can benefit your child. If your child is a good candidate, a customized treatment plan will be developed and presented in easy-to-understand terms.
What happens if my child damages or loses an aligner?
While wearing Invisalign aligners takes minimal at-home care and personal responsibility, we recognize that kids may encounter more mishaps with trays than adults. Parents will be given instructions for at-home care and all the aligners for every stage of the process. If something does happen to a tray, your child then immediately moves to the next set in the treatment sequence. If you don’t have a future aligner, go back to the last aligner in the sequence and call our office for further instructions. To ensure the aligners are working at peak performance, we KNOW that they MUST be worn 24/7—except for eating, NEVER out longer than 15 minutes at a time; and cleaned with a toothbrush whenever brushing the teeth.
